Yay

Posted on Monday, April 28th, 2003

My site has been updated yet again! Now I really need to find something new to pass the time. It’s getting pretty late but I don’t think I’ll head to bed just yet… oh well.

Evanescence

Posted on Saturday, April 26th, 2003

I’ve been hearing a song for a while on the radio and in residence, but I never knew who it was. The first time I heard it was in a movie, but I couldn’t remember which one for the life of me. Even when I paid attention to the DJ when they announce who it was, by the time I got home, it would have slipped my mind. Finally, I heard it again, and I wrote it down: Evanescence. The song is Bring Me To Life, from the DareDevil soundtrack and Evanescence’s debut album, Fallen. Some people would say that Evanescence is what Linkin Park with Avril Lavigne (yikes!) would sound like if they were put together; although the singer does sound like Avril, I think I’m more reminded of Jewel. But either way, it’s some really cool music. I decided to download the album on Thursday and I’ve been listening to it ever since. I found some of their older stuff, and I really like it, too. In any case, I thought that I’d share this new discovery with you.

Some good news: I haven’t been quite so bored!! Thursday, I spent time with buddies from high school. We went to this Japanese restaurant (where seemingly everything had some variety of seafood — yuck!), but I found a dish with chicken and salmon (pretty much the only seafood that I can tolerate). To my surprise, it was a series of dishes, and all of them were really good. Mmmm I’m hungry now ๐Ÿ™ Afterwards we watched a movie: The Transporter. Worst. Movie. Ever. Well, maybe not the worst, but it was awful. In the evening, we went to a hockey game (my high school’s OHL team) and that was pretty fun. Good times, good times.

I forget what I did yesterday, but I’m still here so any boredom apparently didn’t drive me to suicide. Next week I get to finish up some stuff with the people at work and arrange all of the details surrounding my summer employment… fun stuff I tell ya. Maybe I’ll get some more work done on my website or something. I dunno. I gotta find some food…

new layouts galore!

New journal layout! New colours to match the new site! Hooray!

OK I’m drawing far too much excitement out of something so small. Anyhow, I grew tired of black and gold, so I opted for white and blue! I was going to go blue on blue, but then things would have been tougher to see. Slightly on a tangent, yet still somewhat related to the topic, I’d like to point out that double blue were my high school’s colours! And on that note, I’m going to my old high school tomorrow to see a hockey game!

So anyways, last night I watched a movie. Kristin suggested that I watch Schindler’s List since I haven’t seen it before. It also happened to be one of the movies I have downloaded since I got home. Now, that was one very good movie. I was asked to tell her what I thought about it, and I did so in a rather wordy email. It is worthwhile, I think, to say some of the things here, too. But I’m going to summarize to spare my poor fingers from another hour or so of typing.

The movie had a lot of emotion to it; it made me feel a wide range of feelings. It was a rude awakening to see the cruelty and hatred that fueled the Nazi regime. But it is through darkness that light shines brightest; after all, what good is a flashlight in broad daylight? Indeed there was a light, and this character displayed incredible levels of mercy and care. His distinguished actions inspired me to try and be a better person. I’m not going to go into detail about how I’m going to do this since I wrote about it at length in that email already, but it’s not going to be easy; it involves breaking lifelong habits of mine, so the road will be both long and arduous. Wish me luck ๐Ÿ™‚
