Well I just recently got back from enjoying “Messiah”, which was performed by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir. Enjoyed, in fact, is a bit of an understatement!
It really was quite something to see and to hear some two hundred super-talented voices singing in unison. This is particularly true when they are singing some of the most amazing pieces ever written. While it was probably not the whole choir, there were enough of them to fill Roy Thomson Hall with Handel’s music. The four soloists were pretty amazing, too. Add in the TSO (again, not the whole orchestra, but still), and you’ve got audio euphoria.
Some notes:
– Don’t ever go to Monte Cristo restaurant and get the still water. Ever. Unless you enjoy paying through the nose for things.
– There was a single male in the female section, and a single female in the male section of the choir. (Maybe they got lost? No, no. Just a girly man and a manly girl :P)
– I only heard one mistake: the organist was a fraction of a millisecond early after a rest. That’s a pretty freaking tight show.
– Downtown Toronto is super windy. Dang!
– My new coat rocked that wind. ๐
– Roy Thomson Hall is a spectacular venue.
Well, the countdown is on.
~10 hours: Leave Waterloo.
17 hours: Messiah!
5 days: Christmas dinner #1!
6 days: Christmas dinner #2!
7 days: Christmas!
~7.5 days: Snowboard trip!
This is going to be a spectacular holiday. I can already feel it.
In case I don’t manage to get on the computer much when I’m at home, I would just like to extend my wishes for a most excellent holiday to everyone. Have fun, be safe, and don’t forget about why we have this break! Joyous Christmas and Festive New Year!
