Giving Up

Posted on Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

In the spirit of Lent, the following will be removed from my day-to-day activities:

– listening to my iPod
– drinking alcoholic beverages
– candy
– watching sports on TV

It will be super hard but I think I can do it… I hope I can, at least…

LifeSavers (revisited)

Posted on Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

I made a post a few months back about people who consistently come to my aid. Tonight, I realized again how much I owe them and how grateful I am to have friends like them!!

Once again, my good friend Sarah has come to my rescue! You see, I was in need of a keyboard for a Blackforest performance and, without hesitation, Sarah let me borrow hers (again). What a great person. I like her. Thanks, Sarah!!

Baby Steps

Posted on Monday, February 27th, 2006

Well, it turns out that today is significant for another reason: for the first time in my life, I baked*!

I took my first baby step in becoming a more well-rounded cook (having already gotten the jist of some appetizers and a bunch of entrees) and ventured into the realm of desserts. This is a much more dangerous land, where precision and timing play are kings. And experimentation, my favourite, is a risky proposition.

My first victim were cupcakes. Delicious, moist cupcakes. Kat had made them before and they were killer and I just had to try it out! So, after an initial onset of paranoia (i.e. making sure that all of the right things were combined in the right proportions), I stuck two batches in the oven and hoped that it would behave for me (as the oven has been known to randomly nuke everything). It was a good thing that I checked up on them early because they were done quite a bit sooner than I had expected!

“They worked!” Kat exclaimed, after she had walked off with one. Victory is mine!

* And by baked, I mean mixed a bunch of stuff together (some of which came out of a box) under the careful supervision of Kat, without whom there would have been some serious issues. Thanks, KFro! 😀
