Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

Posted on November 25th, 2006

There are few people from whom you want to hear “I’ve made a huge mistake.” Very high up on this list could be your barber/hairstylist.

While the man cutting my hair did not say those exact words, he said things to the same effect to me today. Somehow, in our polite banter, we seemed to have had a gross misunderstanding. I asked to cut one inch off all around. He heard that I wanted one inch all around. It was not until I was feeling the cool air on the top of my head did we realize the error.
Thankfully, my hair was not ultra long to start, so the difference, while noticeable, is not going to really matter in a few weeks when my hair should grow out again. This haircut could have suited me better in the summertime, but it’s still thirteen degrees here (ya, that’s right!) and even when it does get colder, the less hair means more toque friendliness.

I am presently finding it a bit curious that this had to happen one day after I declared how content I was in life. A mere 4 hours ago, very little could have knocked me off from my euphoric outlook on life. And, I am pretty sure that even this will not knock me off. I realized that, ultimately, it’s just hair and it will grow back. More importantly, I am learning (sometimes the hard way like today) to not be a slave to fashion or vanity. So, thank you, Tim, for reminding me today.

No kidding! A while ago, it was still pretty warm here and in the negatives in Waterloo! I guess we’re both getting some crazy weather!!
