Words Too Big For Ears

Posted on November 29th, 2006

I finished For One More Day last night while trying ever so vainly to fall asleep. This book was a recent purchase for me, and I polished it off in 3 days (work included)!

The book was fantastic. It really hit home for me in a lot of ways and, as much as I enjoyed taking it all in, I also took in a lot of things that I wasn’t expecting to face. Several times throughout the book, I’d put the book down and get trapped with my emotions… some of which I don’t like to see and which I try to keep under control. In some ways, it was a real eye opener and, in other ways, it was a real slap in the face. No wonder I couldn’t put it down!

Things are actually changing because of this book. And I know that it’s just a piece of fiction but, when I read, I really try to read. You know how people say that you should “let the book read you” and all that and, as weird or psycho as it sounds, I try to do it. And I know how silly it is for me to start changing my life after I read a book, even though I knew that I had to make those changes all along. But, what can I say? I’m dumb.

Needless to say, I have become so impressed with Mitch Albom’s writing that I have decided to get more of his books. I’m really torn between getting them now (so that I can pay the US price and read them NOW!), or later (so I don’t have to worry about bringing them home in suitcases already too small for what I have here). Hmmm.

Also, remember your $750 limit when crossing the border back to Canada.

He wrote Tuesdays with Morrie didn’t he? That’s an awesome book. And I saw the movie for 5 People You Meet In Heaven, and it was good but I hear the book is better.
