Because Going To Bed Isn’t Working

Posted on April 10th, 2005

1. Total volume of music files on my computer:
55.9 gb; 10976 files. My goodness.

2. The last CD I bought was:
U2 – Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own singles
U2 – All Because of You single

Yay random trip to HMV!

3. The last song I listened to before writing this was:
Apocalyptica – Faraway. It happens to be the last song in a new mix CD that I made.

4. Song playing right now:
Justin’s Computer – Computer Fan.

5. Five songs I listen to a lot or that mean a lot to me:
1. Smashing Pumpkins – Muzzle: The acoustic version of this has a very nice two word description: sonic ecstacy. While not very musically creative, it just really stands out as one of the best songs that Billy Corgan ever wrote.

2. Death Cab For Cutie – Transatlanticism: A very cute song. It was on a commercial (Google search reveals that it was on the 2004 Olympic commercial from Bell Canada) and it sounded really cool. By the time that I got my hands on the album, I was thoroughly engrossed with it.

3. Muse – Time Is Running Out: One of the cooler European bands that I’ve come to enjoy. They have a distinctive sound and this was their breakout single. This song is somewhat appropriate given the reality of my life in recent days…

4. U2 – Vertigo: The coolest European band that I’ve come to enjoy. By virtue of the song’s novelty, I’ve been listening to it (and the entire album) quite a bit. It is a beautiful work.

5. Delirious? – Majesty (Here I Am): I wouldn’t have slept well if I didn’t include a Christian song up here. This is my current favourite, with a version played by the Embassy band being my particular favourite. I love it!

Honourable mentions: Smashing Pumpkins – Drown, Smashing Pumpkins – Untitled, Coldplay – The Scientist, U2 – Beautiful Day, U2 – 40, Radiohead – High and Dry.

6. Five albums I listen to a lot or that mean a lot to me:
1. Smashing Pumpkins – Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness: I could have put any Pumpkins album here, but I figured that this is the one that propelled them into furthest into the history books (although Siamese Dream is probably the highest quality album, overall). The Pumpkins were my first musical obsession, so they need to be here.

2. U2 – How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb: As I mentioned before, the novelty of the album has bumped it up on the rotation. A very thorough album with tons of awesome tracks, HTDAAB has taken over the Joshua Tree as my most frequently played U2 disc.

3. Radiohead – The Bends: Quintessential Radiohead. Enough said.

4. Coldplay – A Rush of Blood to the Head: Hard to pick between this and Parachutes, but I count more hot-damn amazing songs on this one. This is for when I feel lonely ๐Ÿ™

5. Death Cab For Cutie – Transatlanticism: Recently breaking into my favourite bands list, Death Cab is making a great impression on me. They have a really cute sound, and I like a lot of their lyrics.

7. Which 5 people are you passing this baton to, and why?
1. Anyone
2. Who’ll
3. Rip
4. This
5. Off

  1. Rodney Milligan Says:

Delirious is a great band, and World Service is one of their best albums to date. My personal favourite from that album is Inside Outside, although I guess you already knew that from my music quiz.

  2. Justin Says:

Yeah that album is really good. Conveniently enough, Majesty is on there ๐Ÿ˜€

Did you notice that I completely ripped off #7 from you? I hope that you don’t mind!

  3. Rodney Milligan Says:

    I noticed the copying of #7. Nah, I don’t mind. :P:P:P$$::$P$$:P

  4. Justin Says:

    I was hoping that you wouldn’t :P:P:P:P:PP::$:$P$:P

Oh it’s been a while since I’ve done that. Thanks, Rodbad!
