Oh Life

Posted on July 8th, 2005

So things have been fairly busy over the past week or so… I suppose that’s partly why I haven’t been updating quite as often as I would like to update.

My last post was on Canada Day, which I spent with some friends from Embassy. We had a barbeque (in fact, it was our second in two days), then went to Columbia Lake to check out the fireworks. We found a really sweet spot, but not before meeting up with some security guards at a construction site with watermelons up their butts! But it was a heckuva good time that night.

On Saturday, Randy, Randy’s friend, and I made the trek to Toronto to check out Billy Corgan in concert. He’s doing his solo thing for now (very excited about the prospect of a re-united Smashing Pumpkins, by the way..), and put on a show at the Carlu. In all of my years in Toronto, I never knew this existed, and it’s pretty sweet. The show was okay (probably the worst compared to the other times that I have seen him), but not the worst show that I have ever attended. Part of me wishes that I had gone to see Shaker play with Sam Roberts…

As for Sunday, my good pal Jessica came up from around London to pay us folks in Waterloo a visit. We chatted for a bit after Elevation, and then we went to Sarah’s for yet another barbeque. Mmm delicious barbeque. At this point, I will deviate from the recounting of my past week to briefly talk about a thought…

I am really grateful for the opportunities that I have had to develop relationships this past week. In particular, I think that I have gotten to know Sarah, the Michielsen sisters, and Randy better. Through a series of events, I think that I have had the chance to breath through the superficial barrier and start moving towards a good friendship with them.

… and back on track! After Embassy on Monday, a ton of us (probably a hundred or so) went bowling (thanks to the Padfields!!) for a couple of hours. While I am usually an avid hater of bowling, I actually had a good time. I guess it helps when we go out for cheap wings at Morty’s afterwards mmmmmmmmmmmmmm boy πŸ™‚

On Tuesday, I made a trip out to London to visit Jess and Rachel at Laura’s softball game. (Those are the aforementioned Michielsen sisters, for those of you who don’t know.) I’m really glad that I have been able to get to know their family better over the past few months; they really are an awesome bunch. I must admit, though, that I feel a little awkward around them. I think that I’m at the point between acquaintances and good friends where I’m having a tough time figuring out what to say or discuss. So I think that I seem fairly interrogative instead of participating in a very natural, back-and-forth conversation. I hope that will change very soon! πŸ˜›

Wednesday was pretty low-key, so I’ll skip over to today. I hung out at SPUC for a bit and found out that Laura M. got the job that she really wanted!!! Congrats to her on that! πŸ™‚

I also found out, however, that one of my friends from first year had passed away yesterday. While I never got to know Tara overly well, I did become her friend and it totally struck me when I heard the news. I pray that God will bring comfort to her family and have compassion on her. Rest in peace, Tara…
